Our work selected and published in the 2nd edition of the Mastering Type book

Our work has been selected for publication in the 2nd edition of the Mastering Type book from Bloomsbury Publishing and mastering-type.com.

Amazing typographic design works were submitted during the open call, making the awards decision‑making process challenging. There were 272 designs selected from 2005 submissions. The final book is globally represented by designers from 36 countries, all managed by Denise Bosler (professor, designer, letterer, illustrator, and author). April 2024.

Contribution and donation to the book Posters Can Help

Global problems can lead us to question our own credibility and the significance of our own lives. We often ask ourselves what our work is really good for. This book is an effort to bring the global creative community together to take a small but valuable step, towards solving the big problems of our time, like the war in Ukraine. 1 of our freehand cartoon illustrations done in 2006, has been published in the publicly funded Posters Can Help book by Slanted on page 180. The project has raised a total of €6,687.41.

February 2023.

Slanted Magazine #36 — COEXIST

COEXIST: to live or exist together, in peace, at the same time, or in the same place. The 1st time in our lives the world is changing fundamentally. We need to rethink what all this is about. Higher, faster and further at the expense of others cannot point the way to the future. We need to question ourselves, how we want to coexist, show consideration and take a step back. The book questions topics such as climate change, political power, human rights, freedom of speech, wars and many other global issues.

Our Ban Public Smoking (Factories) environmental poster (that you can see on our Graphic Design webpage) has been showcased in Slanted Magazine #36 – COEXIST, on page 269. November 2020.

Illustration featured a new book about form design

1 of our cartoon illustrations commissioned by Caroline Jarrett of Effortmark, is in her new book Forms That Work: Designing Web Forms for Usability (2008), on page xv.

Forms design is an interesting area of graphic communication design, information design and writing, it is surprising how much work and testing is needed to get these perceived boring items to work well, and how subject they are to errors.

Front of the book cover, shows large blue box at the top with the words ‘Forms that Work’, then in a thinner green box below, the words ‘Caroline Jarrett and Gerry Gaffney’. There is a light photo of form boxes behind all the information on the front cover
